Scent Layering and placement in the home - Summer 2025

In this blog, i'm offering a little sneak peak into the scent habits that I adopt when it comes to scent placement and layering in and around my home.

S/S 2025

Living Room - Large open-plan space (leading into kitchen dining space).

This large space needs a gentle and calm fragrance that is suitable for all day and evening. I wanted something that I could just forget about and not have to maintain, so I chose Orchard Rain, and in the largest size of our diffuser range. Diffusers are my preferred 'always on' method for home fragrance.

Orchard Rain is a real pleasure. It charms as well as calms with it's earthy yet fruity fig scent that gently hangs in the air. It isn't intense, and as such, it can be paired beautifully with other complimentary fragrances such as Cordial, or Pomegranate With Fig.
I have a small diffuser in Cordial, placed at the far side of the room as you head towards the kitchen. As you walk through you get a small pop of the vibrant, sweet, yet edgy Rhubarb. Joyous!

In the evening, I may choose to light a Pomegranate With Fig Soy Candle to fill the room with more depth, building on the earthy and fruity vibe with more sophistication and complexity.

Main Bedroom - Large space

Up until last year (2024) I had refrained from using scents in this room, opting for a clean air approach.  This lasted until I fell in love with the calming yet seductive combination that Oud Florale and Spiced Rose together, create. Wow!

Cloakroom - Small space

Tuscany in the downstairs loo gives me a little uplift and holiday vibes whenever I visit. Citrus Bergamot and herbs balance the sweet, musky notes that fill this small room. A 'mood transformative' smell and perfectly suited to a toilet or hallway.

Bathroom - Small space

When I take a shower and steam fills the room, the musky, salty Rockpool fragrance envelopes the air. This is particularly gorgeous on a warm day and with a gentle breeze from the slightly ajar window. A reason to lock the door and shut the world out!

Tips and tricks

I tend to use large diffusers in larger spaces for the main dominant scent, and then a secondary pop of scent can be introduced by using either a small diffuser in the same space (different part), or by using a wax melter or candle if you only want to to ‘switch it on and off’ to suit.

It’s always great fun to experiment with layering and gives you more control over the particular ambience you want to create in your home spaces.
