Quality & Provenance

We use only the highest-quality, sustainably sourced ingredients available, to make our products. We desire to keep the provenance of our products as ‘local’ as possible, and sourcing from within the UK is our absolute priority. This does, however, prove a little tricky at times. Things such as glass, and some fragrance ingredients are sourced from our near neighbouring countries. This ethos starts from raw material and runs right through to packaging and product end-of-life. 
 
All our products are handcrafted at our home, here in Stamford, Lincolnshire. 
 
Each of our products will have its own statement of quality and Provenance.

WAX
The Soy Wax that we use is 100% Natural, all-Soy and is manufactured here in the U.K. It is of superb quality and is free from additives and solvents and contains no paraffin or other additives whatsoever.

FRAGRANCE

We use a combination of Fragrance oils and/or Essential oils to create the nature-inspired and interesting scents that we use to infuse our candles.  You can read our guide on the differences between Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils here.

All Fragrance oils and Essential Oils are sourced from quality U.K suppliers and are vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and paraben-free.

We handcraft our products using the lowest levels of scenting but with a technique deployed to ensure the fullest aroma achievable and consistently, throughout the usage cycle.  The fragrances within our collection feature differing aroma strength levels or ‘throw’ as we say in the industry, that are characteristic to their individual enjoyment.

 
Safety First

Some Fragrance oils and Essential oils can cause an allergic reaction in certain circumstances. Each fragranced product comes with specific information relating to any potential hazards as well as an allergen declaration. In our products, fragrance and essential oils are 'diluted' to very low levels within a carrier substance (wax, glycerin or other) to ensure safe usage or application - all of which are well within/below regulatory guidance.  For safety reasons, it is important that you (or the recipient of the purchase), reads the Safety, Usage and Care Guide that accompanies your product before use, as well as the accompanying Allergen Declarations.  

Regulatory Compliance
All our scented candles are developed in compliance with the strict regulations applied by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation of Chemical Substances) | CLP (Classification, Labelling & Packaging covering hazardous chemicals) | IFRA, as well as British Safety Standards.

• Ensure that you remove all packaging from your candle before use. Do not use your candle if the container is damaged.
• Always position candle:
• On a level, heat resistant surface
• Away from the reach of children and animals 
• Away from flammable items that could catch fire
• Away from other heat sources and direct sunlight.
  NB: Due to the nature of wax, high ambient temperatures can affect your candle and the wax may soften or 'sweat' - this is a normal response since candle wax has a melt point. Try and keep your candle placed in a cooler / shaded area to prevent adverse wax reactions or spoiling. 

• Burn candle in a well ventilated yet draft-free area to ensure a stable flame and burn period. 
• The first burn of the candle is key. This should be for approx 3 to 4 hours (no more) to allow the melt pool to fill to the edges of the candle container as far as possible. This will help to minimise tunnelling and wastage on future burns and prolong the life of your candle. Subsequent burns should last no longer than 3 to 4hrs at a time (less for smaller candles).
• Use a candle snuffer to extinguish your candle.
• CAUTION: Always allow your candle to fully cool before handling.
• Before each burn trim wick to between 5mm and 1cm.
• Keep the candle surface and melt pool area free from debris and wick trimmings.
• Do not eat your candle. If consumed, seek immediate medical advice.
• Stop using the candle when only1cm of wax remains.
• Please always dispose of your candle responsibly and in accordance with your local disposal guidelines.

• NEVER leave a burning candle unattended.

 

Our candles are made using natural biodegradable wax and presented in recyclable/reusable jars. 

We design our candles so that there is only a minimal amount of wax leftover as wastage (if at all any), but here are a few tips on what to do with waste wax:

Removing wax from your container
Firstly, wax is not water-soluble, and jars containing leftover wax must not be placed in the dishwasher. Adding wax into the sewage system will only contribute further to the national 'fat burger' problem in our sewers and also clog up your dishwasher and drainage!

The best way to remove the wax from your container is to pour hot water into the jar and let the wax release itself from the jar and float to the top. You can use a paper tissue or piece of kitchen roll to absorb the wax that floats to the top whilst it is still warm or wait for it to cool and simply pop it out.

You might also try using your microwave for a couple of minutes to help melt the wax. Be careful when handling heated wax and hot water, as with anything that is hot there is a risk of burning yourself. If using a microwave, please use oven gloves or a suitably thick tea cloth to remove the vessel.

Residual melt wax can be mopped-up/absorbed from inside the vessel using kitchen towel or tissue paper.

Disposal

Used wicks can be placed into your refuse bin. You may pull off the metal sustainer, clean it and pop that into the mixed recycling bin.

Pieces of waste scented candle wax can be placed in the refuse bin, or a storage box for onward recycling at a recycling centre. Please always check your local recycling and waste policy beforehand. Do not put waste scented candle wax into your compost. 

Waste fragrance-free candle wax can be placed in the compost. It should take approximately 2 months to break down.

Jars

There are a few ways that you can reuse or repurpose your glass jar...

The most obvious is to purchase one of our candle wax 'Refills' which you can then simply pop inside your old candle jar to give it new life! It's a more cost effective way of regularly enjoying your favourite fragrances from The Wick and Wax Co. 

Alternatively, you might find a new purpose for your candle jar such as a whisky or spirit tumbler, or even a mini plant pot.

Failing that, you can put your clean jar into the recycling waste collection.
